Archive for December, 2009

I did a recap last year and I’m gonna do it again–’cause people with A.D.D. like lists.

What did I do in 2009? Creatively, I mean. Who wants to rehash all the whining and complaining?

January
vorfas
Completed “Salome”, based off a self-portrait from one of my favorite photographers on Flickr, Vorfas. Not for sale.

grape goddess I
Self-portrait session producing photos that I have tried to reproduce in paint TWICE–and have painted over both times, much to the Boy’s irritation. Maybe someday…maybe these photos weren’t meant to be painted?

- bought a “Happy Light” (haven’t needed that for a while) (I’m full of female hormones now)

- the kick-off of a fairly long obsession with hooping that led to the inevitable burn out (like if I watch one more hooping video on the youtubes I’m gonna puke)

kate on the wall
Completed Kate Moss painting, which I have never liked and have come very very close to painting over. The Boy seems to think I should not paint over my paintings. I’ll consider it.

- started working again, after a 6 month hiatus of being a “stay at home artist” (producing waaaay too much guilt)

February
corinne's living room
Loaned Corinne the Francesca painting and taught her how to hoop (sort of) (more like the Youtubes taught her, just like they taught me).

green dress booty
Made the infamous Dress that Tore All the Way up the Back during a Fancy Dinner

ticket love
Got my Burning Man ticket! After 5 years of obsessing obsessing obsessssssing.

neon dress
Made this obnoxious dress.

purple shorts
Conquered my fear of sewing sequin trim (important).

sunbather
Completed this painting, based off a photo of model Angela Lindvall (credits…?).

sequins and dress
Made a dress out of this sequined fabric…
sequins and hoop
…thereby overcoming my fear of sequined fabric (also shedding sequins all over the house, forever).

rainbow sequin dress
Made this dress (never did wear it at BM–I had, of course, too many costumes, sigh).

someone's been...
Maggie and Molly discover the joy of eating poop on the ground (not their OWN poop).

greeny orangey
Stacey introduces me to Harry’s Filters, which allow me to gain a whole different perspective on my photos without ingesting hallucinogens (hooray!). Also I made that dress.

For some reason I become obsessed with rompers:
paisley romper
Ugh, God, “age appropriate, Liz”, thank you James St. James, love youuuuu.

spring fancy
Finished “Spring Fancy”.

- Molly goes into heat (gross)

March

vintage liz
Watched/fell in love with “Let the Right One In” (I looked like Oskar as a child)

romper in the mirror
Romper obsession is furthered by my sewing a romper (sigh).

- made a Youtube video whining about not selling any paintings
- sold a painting (hmm…) “Hoop Love”
- sold another painting “Bubble” to blogfriend phx

neon tights
Fell in love with “We Love Colors” (the above photo is one of my most “interesting” on Flickr, whatever that means)

- discover a show that is 100% up my alley, “Ru Paul’s Drag Race“.

the dreamer
Complete “The Dreamer”, based on a Missoni ad with Kate Moss.

afro love
Complete “Afro Love”, based on a photo of Naomi Campbell. I love this painting!

acid rainbow bikini back
Made my first bikini (easy) using Ye Olde Acid Fabric, circa liz ravewear 2002 (God, dinosaur).

hibiscus painting
Complete the Hibiscus painting (still love it).

April
elegance
Complete “Elegance” (sold).

nina glitter
Complete “Neon Nina”, of the fabulous Nina Hahhhhhgen. Still glittery. Still for sale!

May
grape love
Took this self-portrait, later turned into a successful painting.

June
tutu motion
Bought this rainbow tutu on Etsy (didn’t even break it out at BM–sigh).

hair
Got highlights for the first time (shhh).

grapes on yellow
Completed “Grapes on Yellow” (sold).

edie painting complete
Completed “Edie Glitter Stars” which is still, for some reason, with me. Ahem?

- switched over to WordPress! I’m happy! Happy! (it took a while)

neon flowered bathing cap
FINALLY bought a flowered swim cap–THANK GOD.

jackie curtis painting
Completed “Jackie Curtis”. Still with me!

neon neon everywhere!
The neon wig certainly improved my quality of life.

- started smoking again, after EIGHT MONTHS of not smoking (ugh)
- made another youtube video slutting out my paintings, and promptly sold two paintings (who knew?)

- reconnected with someone from my past, in a positive way…

GOOD GOD THIS is taking way too long. Um…Part 2 tomorrow?

Happy New Year, blog logs.

Waiting, originally uploaded by RedHead66 * Marla.

I’m a little cray-cray over Tom Jensen‘s art.

From his website:

I retired from commercial work (early thank you) to enjoy doing art my own way. And that is, painting till sunrise and sleeping late. Mmmm, it’s all good. Please don’t call before 9.

And he lives near Seattle? Ooh la la! So much talent in the Northwest.

shhhh...
Shhh…they’re sleeping now.

a dog and an alarm clock
A still from SNL, Season 2. The entire skit consists of a dog sleeping, the alarm clock going off and the dog ignoring it. Brilliant!

born standing up
Current book. Quote I like already: “Perseverance is a great substitute for talent.”

dogs on duvet
My sister-in-law bought us the same duvet set that I had drooled over at her house for Christmas. Hey, if she doesn’t mind that we have the same duvet cover, I don’t mind either. I love it!

red tones

blue nude

works in progress
Works in progress. I’ve been picking up the Brigitte painting on and off for months now. I’m also working on a third project for a certain someone (Vox).

a sick man under a blanket
The Boy sick on the couch on Monday.

atari jammies
But don’t those Atari jammies look adorable with my pink slippers?

We both had insomnia last night. I finally fell asleep, Ambien-induced, around midnight, and the Boy was still awake. I felt sorry for him this morning and told him he could take my car again today. BUT NOT TOMORROW–tomorrow I have a Broad Date!

My Washington Gay called me up last night from a casino where he was drinking a White Russian or something and we talked feverishly for an hour or so about meditation (we both think it’s a great idea but BOR-ing!), Vancouver, and his current crush. I told him to e-mail me a photo of his current crush so I could give him my critique.

He calls me “Brigitte”, I call myself “Grammy Liz”, and we both have BDD/food issues and want the other to cook dinner for us. He complained about dog hair “coating the floor” of someone’s house he had recently been to. Well, he had better not PULL THAT ATTITUDE WITH ME! Or else! NO DINNER FOR HIM!

I told him to pick a night and I would cook dinner for him, so we’ll see. Pinning down children* these days is difficult. All they want to do is text message! Grammy Liz doesn’t text message. For God’s sake it took me 20 minutes last night just to text message my e-mail address to my Gay. Who has the patience?

* He just turned 25. He’s a Scorpio. “We’re direct,” he told me over the phone. So are Sagittarians! Of course, “direct” is a nice way of phrasing it. Right now I’m more “bitchy”. Especially since I’m on my period. That’s right. No babies. Nooooo babies.

“I spent most of my twenties doing drugs and drinking too,” she said, “But I don’t feel guilty about it.”

“That’s Dah-rill.”

a candid living room shot
Candid shot in living room by the Boy yesterday. Maggie and I had a few errands to run. I take Maggie with me on errands because 1. she likes the car (unlike Molly) and 2. I like her.

hair today
The Boy’s “whimsical” photography. I like it.

liz in the front yard with Maggie and grapes
Now I’m posing (awkward). Note the grapes in the top of the shot.

maggie pulls Liz towards the car
Gotta go!

Maggie and I delivered presents to my sister-in-law’s house (another chance to take a hit off the baby head) and Corinne’s house (she wasn’t home–foiled again) and then stopped at Barnes and Noble as per the Boy’s request to buy him “Son of a Witch” (I bought myself this, finally) and then we went to the pet store where we discovered…
the ridiculous rawhide
The Ridiculous Rawhide Bone!!! 50% off, of course. I actually squealed when I saw it. Luckily there was no one else in the store except the employees, who encouraged my insanity.

investigation
The dogs aren’t quite sure what to do…

molly is keeping her distance
…but Maggie will give it a test spin. I made a 1 minute video of Maggie dragging the Ridiculous Rawhide around the yard while I laugh at her (see entry below).

maggie and the ridiculous rawhide
Maggie trying to drag the rawhide up onto the stoop (no such luck).

good subscriptions
Hurray, two of my favorite magazines (I did buy myself a year of Elle and Vogue too, because…just because, dammit!).

here comes the magic
Get ready.

slobber slobber drool
Ta da!

the goodness a little closer
Well Kissy, you were right, it’s definitely quantity over quality, as I had suspected. The eyeshadow is not nearly as good as M.A.C., but at that price, who cares? I wanted variety, I got it.

guess which one's my favorite?
Guess which lip gloss I went for first?

The Boy is going back to work today, with my car. Normally he rides his bike to work (through rain/snow/sleet, whatever) but occasionally he needs the car…like when he’s sick with a sinus infection. I’d rather let him take it than bother with giving him a ride (less than 5 minutes away), because that’s the kind of gal I am.

No work today for me, no responsibilities other than expressing myself on canvas with paints and fun with the dogs. Just what I wanted.

the Ridiculous Rawhide Bone

Maggie and Molly test out the ridiculous rawhide bone while I laugh hysterically. Excuse the dirt on the lens (who pays attention to these things?).

dirty, originally uploaded by …the who cares girl….

What a cool idea.

(thanks Gala)

tried Ommwriter? I’m curious, but I haven’t crossed over to Macland (yet).

(thanks Gala)

Photo dump, Part II:
elliot gives molly a kiss
The Boy says that Elliot and Molly were touching noses, and he tried to capture the moment. From this angle they look deep in conversation.

kitchen remodel
My in-laws’ recently remodeled kitchen.

teapots
My mother-in-law collects china, among other things.

teacup
I like this one.

mucha calendar
One of my mother’s traditions is to buy my brother and I a calendar every year for Christmas. It’s always something that I love, and I always keep them. Alphonse Mucha is one of my favorite artists.

hooray for coffee
New coffeemaker! Hip hop hooray!

a baby on the table
It’s difficult to describe (to men, especially) just how painful it is when you are hormonal, want children, and are near a baby. Especially near a baby who looks like Ronia.

ronia clinging
It physically hurts. Just look at her! Sigh.

maggie's dogbutt
Thank goodness I have Maggie’s dogbutt to look at, to make it all better!

molly on the floor
And Bear Cub as well. Arf arf arf!

elliot and the pringles
Here’s Elliot jamming a stack of Pringles into his mouth before his parents catch him. He asked Santa for an “earwig flashlight” this year.

“What’s an earwig flashlight?” I asked. Nobody knows.

boy in wig on stairs
Elliot in a wig. His future looks bright!

a sick, strange man
This is the only picture I have of the Boy on this trip, as he was sick and grumpy. There are no pictures of me, because I wasn’t in the mood for self-portraits and I couldn’t force the Boy into taking pictures of me (like usual) because of the sickness. OH WELL.

lipsch
Oop, wait, I guess I did take one self-portrait. Thank goodness!

maggie depressed on the ride home
Maggie looking depressed on the ride home.

On the way to my in-laws’ house, I spotted a billboard and screeched, “That’s Jesus and a squid holding a giant Pabst!”

The Boy didn’t believe me, of course (who would?), but on our way out of town I forced him to pull over so I could examine the billboard more closely.

the weirdest billboard ever
Weeeell, okay, maybe it’s not Jesus.

pabst and squid billboard detail
Looks more like the tennis player character from “The Royal Tenenbaums”, come to think of it. But still.

The Boy has a sinus infection, and is going to call in sick to work today, I suspect. All day yesterday he stayed in bed, plowing his way through books 2 and 3 in the Dean Koontz “Frankenstein” series. I read the first one and had meh mer feelings about it. However, since I love Dean Koontz, I’m willing to give 2 and 3 a try. First I have to finish re-reading “Hannibal” (now that’s a good book).

I made Mulligatawny soup last night using this recipe (with a few additions). Mmmmm. Soooo gooooood.
